The Sequential Figure and Ground project focused on the exploration of Gestalt Design Principles in order to develop ambiguous relationships between numbers and letters, in this case the word “typography” and letters 1-10. The most predominant principles I utilized were continuation and closure to convey visual repetition that flows throughout the piece. As a means to configure these concepts, I observed where the shapes of the letters would naturally align with one another and thus played with the alignment of the figures to create a flowing rhythmic pattern. Taking all Gestalt Principles into consideration, I constructed a well flowing, visually interesting composition compiled from uniquely integrated letter and number configurations.
